As the largest public health sciences university in the country, UMDNJ provides a resource-rich foundation for continuing medical education excellence through the Center for Continuing and Outreach Education (CCOE). Working in partnership with eight schools and numerous institutes and centers across five regional campuses throughout New Jersey, CCOE provides education with a diversity of approach, culture, and expertise that is unmatched in the medical education field.
Consistent with its responsibility as an academic medical center, UMDNJ, through CCOE, provides a comprehensive program of continuing medical education with the goal of improving the quality of patient care by providing lifelong educational opportunities for physicians and other healthcare providers.
CCOE has been resurveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded accreditation for 6 years as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
The ACCME standard term for reaccreditation is four years for the majority of applicants. Accreditation with Commendation for six years is reserved for CME providers demonstrating compliance in all 22 levels of educational and programming criteria monitored by the ACCME. The Accreditation with Commendation status recognizes CCOE’s commitment to continually go beyond the confines of the classroom in order to make a genuine impact on physician practice and ultimately health care in the surrounding communities, the state of New Jersey and nationwide. This criterion is met by approximately 10 percent of the provider applicants surveyed.
This accreditation represents a historical achievement for continuing medical education programming at UMDNJ, and formally credits the high level of quality and accountability demonstrated by the staff, faculty and partners of CCOE.
