Mission and Vision:
Established in 2010 to energize efforts to translate basic science discoveries into new treatments for patients, ACTRI encompasses several areas: The Center for Clinical Research; Community Engagement; Education; Biomedical Informatics; Laboratories; Translational Research Alliance.
ACTRI, a partnership between the University of California, San Diego, and other local organizations, is partially supported by the Clinical and Translational Science Award program under the National Institutes of Health. ACTRI partner research institutions include San Diego State University, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, Salk Institute, La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, and J. Craig Venter Institute. ACTRI also collaborates with Rady Children’s Hospital and the VA San Diego Health Care System, and partners with many community-based organizations.
Translational Medicine:
Translation is the process of turning observations in the laboratory, clinic and community into interventions that improve the health of individuals and the public — from methods of diagnosing disease to new treatments, medical procedures and behavioral changes.
