Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES) is the UC Berkeley student chapter for the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. HES was established in 1974 to create a community amongst all Latinx engineering and science students. There are many ways that HES aims to accomplish this goal: we engage in activities that not only help our undergraduate members, but also help the youth of our local community. The unwavering dedication of our student members has made our numerous outreach programs a success.
Our organization influences more and more students every year and has had a great impact on the Berkeley student body. HES has quadrupled in members over the course of two years and we reestablished our chapter’s presence at the 2014 SHPE National Conference with over half of our conference attendees placing in rigorous academic competitions.
HES is determined to increase the number of culturally responsible engineers and scientists who succeed academically, lead professionally, and contribute passionately to society.
