Breakthrough innovation in healthcare requires an effective implementation-science and population health strategy. The US healthcare system is fragmented, complex and has varied and often perverse incentives which create headwinds for healthcare innovation. The pace of discovery and development of new healthcare therapies and technologies has accelerated, but most healthcare innovations are implemented in only a fraction of the eligible population. Implementation Science is at least as important as traditional discovery and development science in achieving impact. We believe that breakthrough healthcare innovation must be more than a drug or a test – a full solution and strategy is needed to enable implementation at scale.
