Drayton Valley is located about 90 minutes southwest of Edmonton and is best known as a centre for the oil and gas industry. Forestry and agriculture also play an important part in the local economy.
As the main service centre for the surrounding area Drayton Valley, with a population of about 7000, boasts a range of facilities, shops and restaurants usually found in larger municipalities.
The Town is governed by a Mayor and six Councillors. As per the Municipal Government Act, Council sets the overall direction for the Town through the creation and review of policies and programs. Under the directon of Council, the Municipality of Drayton Valley provides essential and non-essential local services such as road maintenance, water and sewer services, garbage collection, and family and community services.
