TouchPoint Media, the developer of Our Town Plus More has just one purpose – to ensure rural and regional Australia does not get left behind as new technology and higher speed broadband opens up a whole new world of opportunities.
Mark Miller and Laurie Ward, the founders of TouchPoint Media have spent many years working with and speaking to regional councils, businesses and community groups throughout Queensland.
It became clear that not enough thought or support had gone into meaningful, logical and accessible ways for small to medium towns and regions to ‘localise’ the internet.
Their research showed that whilst there has been many attempts to use technology to help regional communities prosper; they mostly fail due to a silo approach. That is, they tend to focus on only one aspect of the community’s needs.
This is due to lack of understanding of the unique nature of regional and rural communities.
Our Town plus More is a unique software and community engagement approach, three years in development.
The program, while elaborate in its design, offers a simple, easy to use interface as it engages, interacts, simplifies and streamlines digital technology usage in regional areas of Queensland.
Each Regionalised Hub will be purpose built to suit the individual needs of a region for information, community, business and government activity.
It helps drive any existing digital portals and harnesses business and community participation. It also allows for an endless scope of on-going community use long into the future.
In effect it is designed to act as a focus point for the economic, social development and growth of regional areas, facilitating greater community engagement, regional business engagement, business to business opportunities, tourism, and local and external business procurement into key areas of Queensland.
Its features and design are in line with the objectives of the Government’s Queensland Digital Economy Strategy.
