Threads of Hope Cairo (ToH) is a social enterprise founded by Malaika Linens that focuses on creating sustainable employment for marginalised local, and refugee women in Cairo, Egypt through embroidery.
Every two months the training centre in Downtown Cairo receives 45 women and trains them in one of five fine techniques: traditional embroidery, cross stitch, amour, corded work and natural dyes. Upon completion, the women produce top quality products from home for clients in the fashion and textile industry.
ToH aims to create a replicable business model through individual-level development. It is currently, working on creating projects that tackle issues put forward by the women of the centre: nutrition, psychological well-being, education and child care.
