Teaching and coaching museum and heritage educators, guides, docents and creatives a variety of easy-to-learn, flexible techniques and skills to create visitor-centred experiences that bring art and ideas to life.
Over the past 10 years, Claire Bown of Thinking Museum has developed the ‘Visible Thinking in the Museum‘ method – a framework that uses thinking routines (from Visible Thinking) along with facilitation techniques and museum education practices.
The result is ‘inquiry made simple’. A easy-to-follow process that allows you to confidently create, lead and manage engaging and interactive programmes with your collections.
In 2020, Thinking Museum launched ‘Visible Thinking in the Museum Online (VTMO https://thinkingmuseum.com/visible-thinking-in-the-museum-online-vtmo/)’ an 8 module online programme teaching participants to use our ‘Visible Thinking in the Museum’ method. VTMO is now the flagship course of the Visible Thinking Membership.
Since starting Thinking Museum, Claire has seen how engagement and learning are positioned at the heart of what museums and cultural organisations do. She's seen how creating real engagement with artworks, objects or with audiences, can be difficult for even the most experienced of professionals
Claire uses her experience to approach training in a different way. She will teach you to excel at engaging audiences – to find your own way of working, drawing on a ‘toolbox’ of educational practices, techniques and skills that you can use in your own individual way. You can join our membership programme The Visible Thinking Membership and also hire Claire Bown as a consultant and online trainer for your team.
