The Tower is a University of Minnesota student-run magazine that publishes the best undergraduate fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and visual art.
We believe that artistic expression is necessary and has the power to enlighten, challenge, and captivate. That's why we strive to provide a creative outlet for those who wish to share their work. We seek to showcase original work by undergraduate writers and artists across the country.
The Tower first ran from 1952 to 1969 as a regular insert in the Minnesota Daily, and was resurrected in 2006 in its current, standalone format. The Tower is designed to provide its staff with real-world experience; staff members are given the opportunity to learn about the editing, publishing, and design world with help from Dr. Jim Cihlar. Alumni have gone on to careers in publishing, editing, writing, and performing.
Our annual print edition comes out in the spring; we accept submissions in the fall of every year.
