The Theraplay® Institute

The Theraplay® Institute has been the international guardian for Theraplay® since 1971, and a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation since 1995. TTI is an international training institute that provides education for mental health professionals, parents, and teachers around the world. We offer mental health services for children and their families at our premiere clinic in Chicago. Theraplay uses practitioner guidance to create playful and caring child-adult interactions that foster joyful shared experiences. These activities build attunement and understanding of each other – replicating early relationship experiences that are proven to lead to secure attachment. The interactions are personal, physical and fun – a natural way for everyone to experience the healing power of being together. With the support of the Theraplay practitioner, parents learn to play with their child in a way that establishes felt safety, increases social engagement, expands arousal regulation, and supports the development of positive self-esteem for both the child and the parent. Training in Theraplay is appropriate for anyone who is a direct service provider working with children and/or families. This includes social workers, psychologists, teachers, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and mental health professionals. The Theraplay Clinic is the mental health practice of TTI located at our office in Chicago. Here at The Theraplay Clinic, our clinicians strive to provide mental health care at the highest standard to the community we serve. Our hope is to create a welcoming environment that promotes warmth and safety for you and your loved ones. We offer clinical therapy services in both English and Spanish to address a multitude of mental health and behavioral challenges for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.
