The RAP Project, (Raising Awareness & Prevention Project), offers a series of presentations aimed at raising awareness about personal safety and prevention in the areas of consent, sexual harassment, assault and rape, while discussing the role of pornography and social media in influencing attitudes and expectations. We examine how erotica differs from hard core porn and speak frankly about the good, the bad and ugly of online pornography. We also address the relationship between (social) media, body image and self-esteem.
Teenagers are under immense academic and social pressure, concerned with exam results, body image and confusion over mutual respect and mutual consent in relationships. We tap into these vulnerabilities and issues, discussing them in an intimate setting while speaking to them in a straight shooting, no nonsense way. Students have responded positively and RAP has been expanding rapidly as a result. We are now in over 160 schools throughout the UK and have reached tens of thousands of between the ages of 9 and 19, parents and teachers.
We also speak to parents, teachers and corporate audiences. Our book, Sex, Likes and Social Media: Talking to Teens in the Digital Age, was published in 2016 and explores many of the issues addressed in our presentations in greater depth.
