The Next Step Spinal Cord Injury Recovery Programs are unique to the Spinal Cord Injury Community and offer an evidence based recovery model that utilises the latest recovery options and modalities.
Typically an injured person’s first interaction with medical care is through the hospital system, whose primary focus is to stabilise and secure the safety of the individual. This system alone is unable to provide those with SCI and other neurological disorders the intensive therapy they require for a long term quality of life and an independent lifestyle. The Next Step offers those with SCI and other neurological conditions the expertise, therapy and long term physical and psychological support that enables them to achieve the best possible recovery outcomes.
The ability to recover from any neurological condition is vastly greater than is currently recognised. Our recovery programs use a holistic approach to treating the body as whole, focusing on the mindset as well as the physical therapy. Our programs are derived from the principals of Neuroplasticity and active nervous system recruitment (ANSR). Neuroplasticity refers to the ability of the brain to reorganise its neural network by creating new neural pathways to adapt, as it needs in states of both health and disease. This accounts for the body’s ability to learn and refine new skills, as well as overcome neural impairment and regain or improve lost function after neural trauma such as spinal cord injury or stroke.
Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEP) are allied health professionals that hold a four-year equivalent university degree and specialise in exercise prescription and lifestyle therapies for the prevention and management of chronic disease, injury and disability.
