The Multicultural Institute (MI) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit founded in 1991. Our mission is to be a stepping stone that helps society transition immigrants from poverty and isolation to prosperity and participation. MI’s programs enhance educational, economic, and health opportunities, cultivate leadership development, and stimulate positive transformation of individuals, families, and communities.
MI provides services and assistance in three locations in three different counties; Alameda (Berkeley), Contra Costa (Richmond), and San Mateo (North Fair Oaks)
OUR PROGRAMS:
Day Laborer Program- Providing Job placement assistance,legal assistance, and other day laborer assistance.
Health/Immigration Program- Health screenings, workshops, and treatment in collaboration with county and other local health providers with educational and training opportunities.
GED Courses- Spanish preparation intensive 5 week courses for GED exam.
Business Entrepreneurship Program- Spanish language workshops and intensive short-term courses in business planning to increase capacity to develop job quotes, track expenses and income, file taxes, and build clientele through marketing.
Youth Academic Program- Mentoring for Academic Success after school tutoring and the Youth Writing Festival provides students from 3rd-9th grade with a chance to tutoring, enrichment and communication with teachers and families. We strive to assist students in academic proficiency and in becoming competitively eligible for post-secondary education.
