The Gresham Club arose from the ashes of the former London Capital Club, which, in turn, replaced the original Gresham Club. The first Gresham Club was established in 1843 as a dining club for the professional classes of the City of London. It was named after Sir Thomas Gresham, a celebrated merchant, who in 1566 founded The Royal Exchange and made a significant bequest to the Gresham College to promote the New Learning of Elizabethan times.
The reformed Gresham Club has recreated the raison d’être of its original predecessor: a private members' club for professional gentlefolk, stimulating social and business interaction amongst like-minded members and their guests. The Club meets at least monthly for a Club Table as its centrepiece and convenes many engaging and distinctive events.
With a distinguished membership that values diversity and inclusiveness, the Club promotes a variety of social and sporting functions and plans to establish permanent City premises in due course
