Founded in 1991, we are the only community funded, nonprofit science center in all of Southern Missouri. We are a worldwide, award-winning organization serving 3 countries, over 30 US states, and over 30 Missouri counties. Our mission is to inspire curiosity and a life-long love of learning through memorable and engaging hands-on experiences in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).
We are an independent, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, that relies on admissions, memberships, program fees, and donations to continue our educational mission, programs and exhibits. The Discovery Center of Springfield is a museum of scientific wonder where people of all ages can explore and learn in a hands-on environment. We hope to teach a love for learning and a curiosity about the world, the things in it, and how we fit into it all.
We have more than 300 exhibits (with the occasional traveling exhibit coming to visit) that take up an astounding 60,000 square feet of exhibit space. DCS is made up of 7 floors of hands-on technology fun, reading panels, and hands-on activities for kids big and small.
Here at the Discovery Center, we offer field trips as well as educational resources for teachers and families. We also offer inexpensive plans for parties and rentals for your special event.
We offer yearly memberships as well as daily admission.
