Digdata is an online programme connecting students in the UK with data professionals from leading brands and services. Our mission is to build a unique community that inspires young minds to consider a career in data.
We believe inspiring young minds early is essential, and we want students of all backgrounds and academic abilities to know a career in data is available to them.
Despite the numerous career opportunities, there is a national shortage of data professionals. It is therefore essential that, throughout their education, young people are given the necessary tools to upskill and develop their competency so they can consider data as a future career choice.
Digdata does this by
1. Connecting with industry partners (‘data champions’) to create fun, innovative virtual work-experience challenges using data to solve real business or social problems.
2. Inviting data champions to host live careers panels showcasing their young professionals.
By engaging with relatable role models, students are shown the educational pathways into the data industry, and the wealth of varied careers. We have a nationwide reach, and our programme is free and fully accessible to all UK students, with up to 10,000 taking part in each event.
By getting involved, our data champions have a direct path to students from 12+ through to university level, enabling them to nurture and harness future talent. It can also help brands and services to build diverse and inclusive teams.
We know as data teams increase their roles and influence, the skills they are looking for in prospective employees go beyond numeracy. The industry needs creative problem solvers, inquisitive thinkers and good communicators – skills that are transferrable from all curriculum subjects and relevant to multiple industry sectors.
