Established in 1989, The British School in Tokyo is a co-educational school for 3 - 18 year olds, based in the heart of one of the most exciting cities in the world. Today, over 1000 students, representing more than 65 nationalities, comprise our truly international student body. Our community is warm, friendly and offers the highest standards of pastoral care. Since opening, more than 30+years ago, BST has developed a reputation for high quality education; unique in Japan, we follow the English National Curriculum from Nursery to A Level, preparing students for entry into universities worldwide. Our graduates continually achieve results well above UK national averages.
At BST, our staff, students and parents know that education is about more than passing exams; sport, the Arts, community service and adventurous activities are woven into the fabric of school life. Students are given countless opportunities to develop independence and resilience enabling them to take the next step in their education, and lives, with confidence and a smile.
As an accredited member of the Council of British International Schools and one of only a small number of schools worldwide to have been independently inspected according to the UK standards for British Schools Overseas, in 2015 BST was once again adjudged to be Excellent (the highest grade) in every area. In 2014 we were delighted to be awarded, ‘Business of the Year’, at the British Chamber of Commerce Japan’s (BCCJ) British Business Awards. We regard these accreditations as very welcome endorsements of the high standards we set for ourselves.
