The Actors Theatre Workshop (ATW) is a vibrant, award-winning non-profit theatre, community center, and educational institution dedicated to teaching innovative educational techniques and theatre principles to both adults and children from all walks of life. At ATW, we believe that creativity is a powerful equalizer and unifier among people.
Our mission extends beyond the stage, as we produce classical and contemporary plays, as well as documentary films, all while maintaining the highest artistic standards. We are passionate about developing new dramatic works that address and explore the social issues of our time. Founded in 1990 by Thurman E. Scott, our Artistic Director, Executive Producer, and Founder, ATW has become a beacon of artistic excellence and community engagement.
Thurman E. Scott, an expert in artistic project development, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our organization. His visionary approach to directing and producing, combined with his award-winning acting, has earned him a respected reputation in American theatre.
He began his creative journey training with legendary drama teachers Lee Strasberg, Harold Clurman, Sanford Meisner, and his mentor Stella Adler. “Thurman E. Scott is the inheritor of the Stanislavski legacy and of my legacy,” Adler publicly expressed before her passing in 1992. “His demand for truth in artistic expression and in the theatre he creates is relentless. Thurman’s vision is big. Very big. He has never ever compromised himself, his talent, his beliefs, or his willingness to meet and surpass all creative challenges. His work advances acting technique for the next generation.”
Through our community-based training and educational programs for at-risk youth and adults from all walks of life, we have transformed countless lives, inspiring hope and fostering individual potential. Join us at The Actors Theatre Workshop, where creativity and community come together to make a lasting impact.
