The THABANG Children’s Home Trust was founded in August 2004. The project’s first phase consisted of pioneering footwork in the informal settlement of Smash Block. Thanks to the initiative of THABANG a local day clinic was established, which works closely with the THABANG Community Care Centre till today.
In 2005 the Juvenile Centre (later: Youth Centre) was opened on the road outside Thabazimbi. The Youth Centre caters for boys from dysfunctional domestic situations.
Subsequently the THABANG Children’s Place of Safety for girls was put into function on the farm Roodedam.
In 2007 the provincial government of Limpopo officially registered THABANG’s two Places of
Safety now named “Child and Youth Care Centres”.
