Techno India University, located in the centre of the IT hub of Kolkata — Saltlake Sector V — was established as the first self-funded university in West Benga in 2013, almost a century after Rabindranath Tagore's Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan. It is the flagship university of the educational conglomerate Techno India Group. Techno India Group (TIG), established in 1985, is one of the largest knowledge management groups in India. It comprises of 100 knowledge campuses with 4 University Campuses, 20 Engineering Colleges, 10 Business Schools and 28 Public Schools and 2 Upcoming Medical Colleges. TIG was founded by Chairman Prof. Goutam Roy Chowdhury, whose legacy is being carried forward by Meghdut Roy Chowdhury, Director, Global Operations at Techno India Group; who is also an entrepreneur, public speaker and change maker.
