Terroir is a collective of architects and urbanists dedicated to producing work that increases the connection between people and the places they inhabit.
With offices in Australia and Denmark, Terroir engages in the world from opposite corners of it, bringing breadth and depth of experience and multiple perspectives on the fragility of our world and the need to care for it. The copenhagen office of terroir is a central part of the total practice operations and has a proud history of award winning work in scandinavia while also contributing to the australian business via a scandinavian perspective.
TERROIR was established as an architectural practice focused on how the multiple qualities of any specific ‘place’ might inform each and every project. We have found our ‘place and people first’ approach to be unique over the past 20 years, but with recent shifts in focus towards creating places for liveability – both internationally (climate concerns, city competitiveness around authentic experience) and locally (GANSW Better Placed and associated policies) – it has become increasingly recognised as one of our core strengths. As a result, TERROIR now works extensively with Government to help realise the true potential of key precincts and the places they form part of.
Led by practice founders Gerard Reinmuth and Scott Balmforth, TERROIR is both a local and international practice. With offices in Sydney, Hobart and Copenhagen, TERROIR provides world's best practice in architecture and urban planning while remaining embedded in the local context of our strategic work with NSW Government, serviced by our urban strategy and data team who are all based in Sydney.
