TCI was established on 19th of June, 1971 with a capital of 5 billion Rials. Mobile Communication Company of Iran(MCI) was commissioned by TCI in 1993. MCI was separated from TCI to operate as an independent legal entity in 2004.
In compliance with the article 44 of the constitution, the privatization of TCI was switched on with the first phase of selling its shares in the stock exchange market on 9th of August, 2008. The presence of competitors and the emerging of new IT-based technologies completely changed the conditions for TCI in the market. Having a major amount of shares in the stock exchange market, as one of the active stock companies with strong facilities, TCI plays an effective role in determining indexes and the volume of the national stock exchange transactions. Additionally, TCI, as an ITU member, is one of the largest ICT operators working among the 196 ITU member states, operating landline and mobile communication networks across the country and the middle east region.
