Synfonia

Synfonia is an orchestra of young professional musicians at the start of their careers. We provide live performances to enhance the learning process in key areas, performing in schools as part of the normal school day. Working with schools to create programmes, we showcase the greatest pieces of classical music – famous works alongside those which are less well-known. Each event is presented by a member of the Synfonia team; behind the orchestra, we project still and moving images as an additional way of putting the music into context. By combining these elements with participatory activities we provide a memorable way for children to absorb the subject matter. Bringing the musicians to the school environment means that everything surrounding the event is familiar while the power of the live orchestral experience remains undiminished. This informal setting challenges the perception that classical music belongs to a privileged few – helping to diversify and strengthen the audience of the future.
