Swapaksh is a social initiative to bring quality education to the doorstep of underprivileged communities. We currently have one centre located in a low income housing zone in Bellandur where volunteers work with children in the age range of 5 to 15 years who are out of school for various reasons.
Since launching, we work with the children six days a week trying to inculcate strong values and a love for learning. The kids are progressing in leaps and bounds. We have procured uniforms, a well stocked library, laptops. We have also launched a nutrition program to provide a midday meal from Akshayapatra to all the children. We have recently tied up with NIIT Foundation to bring in computer literacy. In a short duration, we have grown from 1 hovel with 20 kids studying for 2 hours and 6 volunteers to 4 fully functional classrooms with 80 kids studying for 5 hours everyday and a workforce of 4 teaching assistants and 25 volunteers. More importantly, we have gained the trust of the community who now stand behind us in every endeavour.
Our aim is not just to educate the kids and get them to a certain grade level. (Though we will do that via NIOS Class 10 certification). Our aim is to create self aware, independent, future ready individuals who will be lifelong learners. We want to bring a range of opportunities to our students and help find the best path suitable to each individual so they can live up to their full potential. Towards this end, we have put in place several programs like mindfulness, fun-learn-move sessions , yoga, art, music, coding and maker projects.
