The Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of our world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network. Founded in 1984 by a handful of visionary surfers in Malibu, California, the Surfrider Foundation now maintains over 50,000 members and 80+ chapters worldwide.
The San Diego County Chapter is one of the largest & most active chapters in the world. Our permanent staff includes a Chapter Manager, a Policy Coordinator, and a Beach Cleanup Coordinator. A volunteer Executive Committee serves as our local Board of Directors.
Our impacts are primarily achieved through 9 volunteer-led committees, who work tirelessly to protect and enjoy San Diego county's 72 miles of ocean, waves and beaches.
SD County committee/programs include: Beach Cleanups, Beach Preservation, Blue Water Task Force, Clean Border Water Now, Hold Onto Your Butt, Rise Above Plastics, Ocean Friendly Restaurants, Ocean Friendly Gardens, and our Climate Change committee.
