The Supply Clinic story starts when Dr. Scott Drucker started his residency in Periodontics at the University of Illinois in Chicago. He had just finished dental school at the University of Pennsylvania, and needed to buy his own supplies for the UIC residency program. Naturally, he turned to the sales reps of large distributors to help him. But Scott also checked online, and found every one of his products for substantially lower prices online.
Needless to say, Scott recognized that something was off. Why would the large companies with all the advantages of scale charge so much more than smaller companies for the same products? And the idea was born: build a marketplace to allow all qualified sellers to compete on price and service. Dental offices would find the price savings of smaller sellers along with the convenience of larger distributors. Dr. Drucker assembled a talented team, and Supply Clinic grew out of their efforts.
