An innovative non-profit founded by an ex-Peace Corps Volunteer, the Superkids Foundation is a 501(c)3 international education nonprofit that mobilizes children as agents of change in their communities.
Due to high student-teacher ratios in the South-American nation of Paraguay, many kids in high-poverty areas never learn to read, but continue to pass the grade until they inevitably drop out of school. These drop-outs clearly have multiple societal effects, contributing to low self-esteem, low civic participation, high rates of community violence, high rates of teenage pregnancy, and never-ending cycles of poverty.
While many people didn't think it was possible, Superkids empowers children in Paraguay to become everyday superheroes by training them as "Kid Teachers.”
Our children have taken it upon themselves to volunteer twice per week in under-resourced areas helping to remove barriers by teaching kids their age and younger how to read. Last year alone, our Kid Teachers taught over 5,000 hours of literacy instruction in local schools!
We are very proud of our young leaders -- they truly take to heart the phrase "You're never too small to be big!"
