In July 1944, the Summerland & District Credit Union was founded by ten people who pooled their resources and managed to collect $17.50. While they started small, they had a big vision. They saw an alternative to traditional banking methods: people working together to reach their goals. Sharing their knowledge, skills and energy, these pioneers built a foundation based on the principle of sound financial management. People helping people! For over sixty years, the Summerland & District Credit Union has been helping people buy their first car or home, start a new business, send their kids to college, and save for their future — in addition to providing job opportunities for local people.
