Studio Zmei is an animation studio founded in Sofia in 2015. One of its main goals is to help the development of the animation industry in Bulgaria by working on major international projects and applying the experience gained on its original projects.
The Studio was established to fulfill "The Golden Apple" project - the first animated series based on the Bulgarian folklore, which won the support of a major French producer and is developing in negotiations for the first season.
In 2018, Studio Zmei began work on its first international project - "I Elvis Riboldi" - an animated series, a co-production between Spain and France, for which our team created more than 90 minutes of animation. The production has been broadcast in 130 countries on Cartoon Network and Disney Channel.
The development of the second original project of Studio Zmei - "Mila and Marko" - started in 2021 and is in the process of developing partnerships.
From March 2021 until September 2022 we worked as subcontractors for Studio La Cachette on the animated series Unicorn: Warriors Eternal, directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, set to be released on Adult Swim and HBO Max in May 2023.
In September 2022 we started animation on a new animated series, a co-production by Studio Zmei, side by side with our colleagues from France in Je Suis Bien Content studio and Italy - studio Animato for a project named “The Crunchers”.
Also in the same year Studio Zmei became part of another big animation production of educational series - “Once upon a time… the objects” - in partnership with the big French studio Samka.
