Samiksha Gupta is a contemporary Indian artist and portrait painter. She is part of a new movement of artists across the world working in classical painting methods and practices, while staying true to a contemporary aesthetic. She has trained in classical methods of drawing, painting and sculpture following the realist tradition of the Old Masters, that flourished in the Renaissance and was carried on by the realist painters in the 19th century Western European art. She applies these techniques to contemporary subjects in the mediums of graphite, charcoal, oil and water color. She is a self taught artist, who eventually trained in Florence, Italy, the center of artistic training that descends from Renaissance ateliers. She has a masters degree from The London School of Economics and a graduate degree from Lady Shri Ram College for Women. She is deeply inspired by the works of the late 19th and 20th century revered painters such as John Singer Sargent, Pietro Annigoni, Anders Zorn, William Bouguereau and Giovani Boldini amongst others.
