SAQA is an international non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art quilt and the artists who create them. Founded in 1989 by an initial group of 50 artists, SAQA members now number more than 3,000 artists, teachers, collectors, gallery owners, museum curators and corporate sponsors.
SAQA is a world-wide resource for information on the art quilt. In addition to mounting museum-quality fine art exhibitions that travel the world, SAQA documents the art quilt movement through exhibition catalogs and the continuing series of Portfolios, the art quilt sourcebook.
While artwork in SAQA's traveling exhibitions could be textile-based, our definition of an art quilt does not require it: the art quilt is a creative visual work that is layered and stitched or that references this form of stitched layered structure.
