Spark Media is an independent, Washington, DC-based production company that specializes in substantive multimedia programming. Spark Media is a Woman-owned business, certified by the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). Established in 1989 by producer-director Andrea Kalin, Spark Media shapes narratives that not only inform and motivate but have the power to connect emotionally with diverse audiences.
As activist filmmakers, our mission is to develop content that increases awareness and communication among people. We approach every production with a commitment to educate and inspire. For many of our projects, we don’t stop at the screen. To raise the profile of our work, build communities of advocates, and multiply our impact, we undertake extensive outreach and engagement campaigns tailored to the subject matter and themes of a film. The team at Spark seeks out stories that portray courageous individuals, and we love to get people talking.
We have won over 100 industry awards, and our feature documentaries have never failed to secure either commercial broadcast or a theatrical run.
