Sona Corporation (Pvt) Ltd is a third-generation family-owned business.
The company has diverse investments across public and private equity markets, real estate, venture capital funds, and start-ups.
The founders' roots can be traced back to the 1980s, where they started as distributors of audio cassettes, and over the next decade, vertically integrated into the manufacture of audio cassettes and DVDs. The company subsequently began exports to regional markets and became a dominant player in the digital media storage market in the South Asian region.
In the late 1990s, Pakistan’s bulk packaging market witnessed a major shift by phasing out traditional jutes bags and adopting polypropylene (PP) bags. Foreseeing growth in this space, the business acquired a struggling synthetic fibers/plastic manufacturing plant and established M/s. Modern Fibres Pvt Ltd.
The business was turned around with new management in place, driven by a clear vision of growth, and investments in cutting-edge machinery. The newly formed company manufactured PP bags, fibers, and related plastic products and served the leading textile export houses of the country.
Post the financial crisis of 2008, the company further diversified towards real estate development. The business accumulated a valuable land bank over the years and developed mid-rise residential apartment buildings and has been part of various investor consortiums to fund iconic real estate projects in the country.
In 2017, the third generation joined the family business aiming to deploy the capital generated from legacy businesses and compound it via strategic investments.
Today, Sona Corp operates as a private wealth management advisory firm, looking to make investments in public and private markets in Pakistan. The business actively partners with companies and entrepreneurs that are driving sustainable growth in the country and aims to play its part to help Pakistan strive for a green and prosperous future.
