Somsen, Mueller & Franta has a rich history of providing excellent legal services with common sense solutions for its clients.
The firm was founded in 1896 when Henry Somsen Sr. established his legal practice in New Ulm, MN. Henry later partnered with John Lind, creating the law firm of Somsen & Lind. Mr. Lind would later leave the firm in 1899, when he was elected governor of Minnesota. Einar Hoidale was also an early partner at the firm from 1900-1906. However, Ms. Hoidale would also later leave the firm for politics after becoming a member of congress.
Henry Somsen Sr.'s son, Henry Jr., joined his father's practice and after the death of his father in 1955, Henry Somsen Jr. became a solo practitioner until 1964, when he partnered with Terence M. Dempsey, who established the firm's Sleepy Eye, MN office.
In 1972, William M. Schade was added as an additional partner followed by Steven J. Franta in 1994, creating the firm of Somsen, Schade & Franta. In 2003, Somsen, Schade & Franta formed a partnership with the Mueller Lowther Law firm, of New Ulm, MN, creating the firm now known as Somsen, Mueller & Franta.
In 2001, New UIm's second lighted baseball field, Mueller Field, was named in honor of former partner Al Mueller. In 2012, Governor Mark Dayton appointed former Somsen, Mueller & Franta attorney Robert Docherty as a Brown County District Court Judge.
