Smeaton Estate is rich in tradition and built on a wealth of experience, hard work and a true passion for the art of winemaking.
We believe great wine is made in the vineyard and pride ourselves on creating a product that is of the highest quality. We accomplish this with sound agriculture, paying respect to our surroundings and by adhering to sustainable viticultural practices.
For over 100 years the Smeaton lineage have been pioneers in the wine industry. In 1892, Henry Richardson, great grandfather of Jan Smeaton, was among the first who planted grapes in the Coonawarra region of South Australia. In 1996, Jan and her husband John Smeaton carried on Henry Richardson’s legacy by planting 25 hectares at their Martin Hill vineyard in the Adelaide Hills. Since then, Smeaton Estate has supplied grapes to many of the leading wine brands in Australia and will continue to do so in the future.
Now, in partnership with winemaker Con Moshos (@Tapanappa), we have used curated parcels of our premium, single vineyard fruit to produce wines of the finest quality that mirror the unique terroir and 440 metre altitude of the Martin Hill vineyard.
With the release of three limited edition wines, including the 96 point ‘Sienna’ Riesling (Halliday 2021), we invite you to join us on the journey as we create each new vintage of our amazing, single vineyard wines.
