The overall objective of “Show me your number” is to leverage the respect and hero status of footballers in their communities. SAFPU wants Show me your number to raise HIV/AIDS awareness through the celebrity soccer games and a series of events that will demonstrate the South African football players’ commitment to the fight against HIV/AIDS. This project and its activities are in line with the National Strategic Plan on HIV and AIDS 2007 – 2011, as well as SAFPU’s own HIV and AIDS Policy. Furthermore, it is to mobilize the public in taking precautions about HIV/AIDS using the “public power” of soccer players.
