Sheraton Grand Pune Bund Garden Hotel was built in 1999 by Mr. Hafeez Contractor, one of India’s most respected architects. Famous for his stylised Gothic structures that incorporate an abundance of open space and light, Mr. Hafeez Contractor envisioned the hotel as a perfect balance of grand old world charm and sophisticated contemporary design and comfort. Based on architectural concepts that originated during the Peshwa dynasty, the palatial style of the hotel reflects the layout of a traditional “Wada”—or central meeting place of a community household. Typical of a Wada, the hotel is built around two spectacular atriums with small balconies that overlook the corridors that lead to the guest rooms. Each atrium is decorated in soft pastel shades of colour with exquisite stone carvings, elaborate murals, and Italian marble floors laid in traditional patterns by local craftsmen that match the four superbly handcrafted sandstone columns perfectly. Since its opening, the hotel has played host to an illustrious group of guests—ranging from the CEOs of Fortune 500 companies to the Hollywood A-list.
