Friedrich Karl Schattauer founded Schattauer Publishers in Stuttgart in 1949. After F. K. Schattauer‘s death, Dieter Bergemann acquired the publishing house in 1983 and has since managed it as publisher and CEO. In 1992 he was joined by Dr. med. Wulf Bertram as additional executive director with main focus on scientific program and quality assurance. Since 2008 Jan Haaf has been a member of the Schattauer Management Team.
The publishing program comprises more than 600 current book titles, mostly atlases, textbooks and manuals for physicians and students as well as other health care professionals. Twenty journals in the fields of human and veterinary medicine, medical informatics, psychology, psychotherapy and psychiatry make up the second focus of publication. All journals are available online as full text in addition to the printed version, except ACI – Applied Clinical Informatics the first eJournal of Schattauer.
Schattauer cooperates with national and international publishers, is commited to cooperations with renowned institutes as well as national and international medical societies.
