Sancal is a family company born under the heat of the Mediterranean. With deep local roots, it is celebrating its 50th anniversary as an international company.
"Mediterranean culture has made us what we are: a passionate, open and joyful company; energetic, hard-working and creative; family oriented and a friend of its friends; humble and responsible; fun, affectionate and friendly".
Sancal turns 50. Half a century is enough for many stories of overcoming... The most remarkable one is how a small upholstery workshop, in the middle of an almond tree field, has become a benchmark of contemporary design with a wide international projection.
It all began in the 1970s. A historical moment that brought great changes not only political, but also social and cultural, culminating with the establishment of democracy in a Spain eager for modernity, and also a time of entrepreneurial effervescence. At the beginning of this decade, the founder and president of the company, Santiago Castaño, began to produce Marie Antoinette style armchairs.
However, on his first trips to Milan, he discovered other ways of understanding upholstered furniture, functional and flexible designs that would fit into any home. With Santiago as Sancal's exclusive designer, the company specialised in modular upholstery, using an ingenious set of independent modules through which it was possible to make an infinite number of compositions, revolutionising domestic spaces with modular systems.
Despite all our achievements, we have the impression that everything has yet to be done.
