Safe Place is a national youth outreach and prevention program for youth in need of immediate help and safety. More than 20,000 community and business locations nationwide display the Safe Place sign, making help readily available. Designated Safe Place locations include libraries, fire stations, YMCAs, public buses, grocery stores, restaurants and social service facilities.
Safe Place provides training and technical support for 130 licensed Safe Place agencies in 39 states and the District of Columbia. In 2009, NSP launched TXT 4 HELP, a 24-hour text-for-support service for youth in crisis. Teens can text the word "SAFE" and their current address to 69866 and receive a text message with the name and address of the closest Safe Place location, as well as the number of the local youth shelter agency. Users also have the option to text interactively with a mental health professional for more help.
Safe Place is a program of National Safe Place Network. Visit www.nspnetwork.org to learn more about the parent organization.
