More than 41,000 composers, lyricists and music publishers are organised in the cooperative society, which was founded in 1923. SUISA collects copyright royalties on their behalf from all those who use music publicly in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Thanks to agreements with more than 100 sister societies all over the world, SUISA protects the rights of a total of two million authors and publishers. SUISA employs more than 240 people at its offices in Zurich, Lausanne and Lugano. SUISA represents the so-called small rights. These include non-theatrical musical works, concert versions of theatrical works and musical works in cinema and television films. It grants licences to its clients, such as concert organisers, record producers, radio and television stations, catering establishments and shops, etc., so that they may perform, broadcast, redistribute and reproduce music.
