STEAM Engine Global is a social enterprise that aims to bridge the gap and build work pathways for people who are underrepresented in technology powered roles and organisations. In parallel, we help organisations create inclusive cultures that foster diversity and innovation.
The idea behind STEAM Engine Global came from pondering over a future largely underpinned by technology and the fact that most teams that create these technologies lack diversity.
If we want to build humane and meaningful technologies that delight our users and solve real problems, we need not only deep technical expertise, we need compassion, critical thinking, creativity, languages, focus on quality, subject matter experts, and a collaborative mindset.
These skills typically sit under the Arts & Humanities, and we want to encourage a transformation in organisations to value this and bring these skills into the STEM landscape to create STEAM = STEM + Arts.
We design and deliver programs that aim to inspire, enable, and empower individuals, population groups and communities who are underrepresented in tech roles and organisations. Many of these people feel alienated and disengaged, unable to see the relevance of technology to their situation.
The first product is a Youth Engagement Program (YEP!) that is co-created with industry, government, schools, NGOs, students, and community groups, which the participants streamline and personalise for their particular needs.
