SOUNZ champions and promotes the sounds and music of Aotearoa New Zealand.
SOUNZ has a constantly growing collection of over 21,000 NZ music resources. We represent the music of more than 550 composers from Aotearoa New Zealand in the following areas:
- classical composition
- Māori music music using taonga puoro (traditional Māori instruments)
- electroacoustic music
- jazz composition
- screen composition
- sound art
We do the following:
- make, broadcast and promote films of music in partnership with RNZ Concert - - make and promote articles, interviews and podcasts
- collect and sell sheet music and other music resources
- advise on repertoire, programming and performance of music
- provide development opportunities for composers through our various projects and collaborations with organisations such as RNZ Concert, NZSO and many others
- present prizes and awards for composition and performance through our partner organisations such as the NZ Choral Federation, Chamber Music New Zealand and many others
- provide resources for teachers and performers
- present workshops and wānanga promote news, events and activities through our online platforms and regular communications
SOUNZ is a member of the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC).
