SILO AR+D is the architecture, research, and design practice of Marc Manack and Frank Jacobus. We operate out of North Carolina, Ohio and Arkansas. SILO works on residential and institutional projects across the United States, completing projects for a variety of clients and communities, much of which has been recognized for its design and execution.
SILO's work has been featured by the Wall Street Journal, Architect, the Architect's Newspaper, Azure, Slate, Dwell, and Fast Company among many others. Our architecture has been recognized nationally and internationally with design awards, including those from the AIA. In 2016 SILO AR+D was selected as an Emerging Voice by the Architectural League of New York, a prestigious competition that recognizes significant bodies of realized work and considers accomplishments within the design and academic communities.
Marc Manack, AIA is Principal of SILO AR+D and the Assistant Professor of Building Design at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Marc taught previously at the at the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, Kent State University's College of Architecture and Environmental Design, and Ohio State University’s Austin E. Knowlton School of Architecture from where he is also a graduate. He is co-editor of the book Out of Scale (ORO).
Frank Jacobus, RA is Principal of SILO AR+D, and is Associate Professor and 21st Century Chair of Building Technologies in the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas. Frank taught previously at the University of Idaho. He has a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the Cooper Union and an MArch II from the University of Texas. Frank is author Archigraphic: An Infographic Look at Architecture (Laurence King), and forthcoming The Visual Biography of Color (ORO).
