A destination of national significance, Wadjemup / Rottnest Island has long been important to Western Australians as a place of recreation and leisure, in addition to its cultural and environmental attributes.
With the island welcoming increasing numbers of visitors, the Class A Reserve requires active and adaptive management of the spectacular natural and unique heritage assets.
We are responsible for the management of the island under the provisions of the Rottnest Island Authority Act 1987, which establishes RIA as a statutory body reporting to the Minister for Tourism.
