Richmond State Hospital is the largest of the six State Psychiatric Hospitals in the State of Indiana, under the direction of DMHA/FSSA. Situated on a beautiful campus on the West side of Richmond, we having been caring for persons with mental illness since 1890. We treat adults under commitment from their local county courts for persistent and severe mental illness and substance use disorders. We also accept forensic clients, including those who require competency restoration to stand trial. We also host and support a number of services and agencies, including Birth-to-Five, Hope House, Kiwanis Safety Village, State Police, Parole, and the Department of Natural Resources. Recently, we have supported the opening of 30 more addictions beds through a contract with Meridian, who are actively accepting patients as of last month. In addition, we have many education opportunities for students and post-graduates, including physician assistants, psychologists, nursing, social work, and many others. We also provide tours of our museum located on our historic property that highlights the history of our hospital and the evolution of psychiatric treatment. RSH is committed to Recovery Strength and Hope, and the fight to end the pain of neuropsychiatric disease.
