There are many reasons why Return to Sender isn’t your standard casket and urn manufacturer. We believe that your final footprint should be a small one.
That’s why we design caskets with the environment in mind.
Our caskets are handcrafted in New Zealand with the materials that Mother Earth loans us. We only work with untreated timber and water-based paints and finishes, natural waxes to produce naturally beautiful caskets and urns that respect the environment. We’re passionate about the environment so have developed clever design techniques that maximise natural resources and minimise the use of metal.
We endeavour to minimise waste where ever we can. From laying out the components in a way to utilise nearly every square inch of the timber panels, then any offcuts are repurposed into urns or donated to schools or staff for use in their own projects. The sawdust is donated to companies that clean up spills on the road. We also request that our suppliers do not use any plastic packaging for our orders (and in the hope they take inspiration from Return to Sender to stop using all plastic).
We’re committed to leaving New Zealand better than we found it by donating a native tree to Trees For Survival for every casket made. One pine tree makes around 10 caskets, which means we give back more trees than we use. From humble beginnings, we’re now a respected leader in eco-friendly caskets.
