ReefSave is a public non-profit Florida organization dedicated to protecting the reef life of the Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. Our mission is to research, educate, train and implement strategies to protect tropical reefs from loss of marine life through practical self perpetuating solutions. Our initial goal is to develop, test and deploy effective lionfish traps, study their effectiveness and study the effect on marine life and educate the locals about how lionfish affect the reef, the fishing and their lives. Our next goal is to empower local participating fishermen with a low cost lionfish trapping business, guaranteeing the purchase of all lionfish caught and the creation of both a sustainable local market and export of excess catch. Our further goal is to duplicate the successful system to other areas to repeat what works.
