Reddkjellerne was founded in January 2016 and liquidated in June 2018, and consisted of six board members and about 200 employees - all of whom worked voluntarily.
Reddkjellerne was established to work for the reopening of social gathering premises for students at NTNU, called Kjellerne. These gathering sites were closed due to lack of fire safety. Through determined work and close cooperation with Studentskipnaden i Trondheim and Velferdstinget, it was in March 2017 decided that the gathering sites should be restored and reopened. As a temporary solution, Reddkjellerne established a gathering site for the students, with sales of beverages and arranging several different events. During summer 2018, the new gathering sites were reopened and Reddkjellerne's mission was accomplished.
Reddkjellerne was for a period of time the third largest bar in Trondheim in terms of sales volume and had an annual turnover of more than 1.5 MNOK. Reddkjellerne won Velferdstinget's student award 2016 for its work for the social environment among students in Trondheim.
