ReFood is the European market leader in the field of disposal of organic waste from kitchens, canteens and retailers. From every stage in the food chain, ReFood recycles food waste via Anaerobic Digestion (AD) to produce biogas for use for the generation of green energy as well as a nutrient-rich liquid fertiliser called ReGrow.
ReFood is a subsidiary of SARIA - Europe’s largest specialists in the recycling of food chain by-products. In the UK, SARIA is the leading processor of animal by-products and waste food, SARIA’s unique range of services support every sector of the food supply chain, collecting from 15,000 retailers and butchers nationwide. From the countryside to the city, they ensure that food waste never goes to waste in landfill, but instead is recycled and used as a resource.
ReFood UK expands SARIA's unrivalled range of recycling solutions for the UK food sector. The company provides nationwide food waste recycling services to major blue-chip customers across retail, hospitality, manufacturing and public sectors.
ReFood operates a fully integrated collection service for food waste producers; the company offers free advice to local businesses looking to save money on their waste disposal costs and to reduce their environmental impact at the same time.
ReFood UK operates three large-scale integrated AD plants; a 160,000 tonnes per year CHP plant in Doncaster and two 160,000 tonnes per year gas-to-grid units at Widnes in Cheshire and Dagenham in London.
The original Doncaster plant was expanded in 2014 and now generates 5MWh of renewable combined heat & power (CHP). Whereas the Doncaster plant generates electricity and heat, the Widnes & Dagenham plants export refined biogas to the national gas grid for use by local homes and businesses.
Across Europe, ReFood operates 12 AD plants and is active in Germany, France, Denmark, Spain and Poland.
